Mr. Hubbard’s First & Second Grade

Ice

I would remind you to have a Plan B for tomorrow. I think it may be a snow day.

Flynn Trip

Mr. Young’s class and our class had a great visit to the Flynn this morning. The show was a compilation of short skits relating to children’s book. There was “Duck For President,” “Fancy Nancy,” “Pirates Don’t Change Diapers,” and a few others. The students seem to enjoy the show.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is our big day! Off to the Flynn first thing.

Busy Week

Raise your hand if you forgot today was class picture re-take day. Me too! I guess this year will be a “casual dress” class pic. There is a lot going on this week. Wednesday morning we will be going to the Flynn for our “Duck For President” performance. Hopefully, it’s a little more civil than the primary election currently taking place. We will be back in time for skiing, so have all your kids gear. And lastly, we will be having Library tomorrow (Tuesday) in lieu of our regular Wednesday time.

Thus far I have $3.00 from eleven students.

T.G.I.F.

Thanks to everyone who came in last night for the Winter Concert. I’ll admit, I wasn’t quite sure we were ready to perform it for an audience. However, with J. Hill’s leadership and some diligence from the kids, we pulled off one heck of a good show. Great job.

Today we did a project combining poetry and the lunar phases. During our discussion, I made reference to the fact that the cycle wouldn’t go on forever; current estimates put the sun’s fuel source at approximately 5-7 billion years (Thousands of times longer than the past extinction of the dinosaurs.) Hopefully, kids weren’t left with a feeling of impending doom. Don’t worry, I won’t even mention the Mayan prophecy!

Winter Concert

Plan on having your child in the classroom tonight at 5:50. The show will begin promptly at 6:00. I won’t be arriving until 5:50, so try not to be too early. After you drop off your child in the room, you should grab a seat in the gym. We will walk down as a class. The show should last 45-60 minutes. When the concert concludes, you are officially on duty. I’m looking forward to a great show.

Sent in your $3.00 for the Flynn, yet?

Sledding…NOT!

Really!? It’s 9,000 degrees below zero all weekend, and when it’s finally time for us to have our sledding party it rains? Mother Nature is a… well, let’s just say she can be a bit fickle. We had our Cube Party in spite of the weather. Thanks to everyone who sent in something. Remember, tomorrow is a ski day and Thursday night is our Winter Concert. Maybe it will rain! Wouldn’t that be ironic?

Cube Party

It’s that time again! The kids have earned all our cubes. Therefore, we will be having a Cube Party this Tuesday. (No school on Monday.) My thought is to make it a sledding party, weather permitting. Please send your child to school with everything needed to hit the hill. Also, if you are hankering to make a little “something”, we would very much appreciate it. Enjoy the frigid weekend.

Postponed

Tonight’s concert has been postponed until next Thursday (6:00 p.m.). I hope you and your family get a nice, quiet evening at home. Relax, stay safe and (hopefully) we’ll see you tomorrow morning. (I HATE snowdays!)

A Few Items

A couple of things to keep in mind for this week. First and foremost, tomorrow is a ski day. Please remember to have absolutely EVERYTHING ready to rock and roll. I will not be going up to the mountain this week, so once they leave the building, I can no longer be a mitten-finder or a hat-scrounger. Also, Thursday night is our Winter Concert. We have been practicing for the past few weeks; I’m expecting big things. See you then. Spelling test tomorrow.
